2013 kinda sucks a bit

So, I am in the mood to rant.

  • I graduated from University 10 years ago this past May, and I have yet to find/been offered a permanent job. Well, I did work at the Castledowns YMCA as the Child and Youth Supervisor for a couple of years soon after graduating and quit so I could follow my passion to be a teacher, so I guess I was offered one; however, none as a teacher. I'm not saying it is anybody's fault, maybe my own, but it is frustrating to not know what my income is to support my family week to week. I know my wife is the sole bread earner in our family, so we are fine, but I feel less of a man for not being able to bring home a steady income. Steve Harvey wrote a book: Act like a Lady, Think Like a Man, and in it he says that a man needs to feel worthwhile by providing to his family, both emotionally and financially, and by putting in a good hard days work at something he loves. I lack the later. I know my family loves me, but I have no regular income to additionally support them. That is why I am working hard for this Correctional Educator position. I LOVE working as one, and I need to have this position as I feel it completes what I was destined to do. 10 years is a long time to feel worthless.
  • This is the second time in a row this year I am a shut in for a long weekend. From my previous posts you have seen I was in the hospital over the May long weekend due to illness. I had such cabin fever in the hospital and really wanted out. My girls and Ali could go play and have fun, but I was shut in until after the weekend was done. Now, here it is another long weekend: Canada Day, and I am shut it again! Since I need to make some income (see last point), Ali took the girls to Alberta for the annual Webster family reunion. I am staying behind to work and hang out. I had booked a car rental from Enterprise for the weekend through to next Saturday. I got a call from them to confirm on Thursday and I called yesterday to ask about being picked up today. They said sure, just call when you are ready. I called from 11am - noon, and then I got the voicemail message that the branch was closed. So, now I don't have a car this weekend. "Customer Service" was unhelpful as they said they could do nothing for me since the branch was closed. So, now I am shut in again and my family is away on vacation without me. Sure, I could have gotten Ali to drop me off at Enterprise on her way out of town, but I didn't because I was told to just call and they would come pick me up.
So, I am feeling down this long weekend. With the flooding disasters back in Calgary, the threat of flooding here in Prince Albert (which looks like it won't really do much),  most people away this long weekend, this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back. Have a great Canada Day long weekend all. I'll be over this low point soon.
