Night pain

Here it is, 3am, and I am in considerable pain. Woke up 10 min ago coughing something fierce. The afterpain is excruciating. Nothing came up from the coughing, but it hurts like hell. I need to control this urge to cough a lot. It is too painful.
After enjoying some nice soft ham, scalloped potatoes and stuffing last night for supper, I was feeling confident in my throat; like it was on the mend... Now nothing but pain. I took two hydromorphone to help with the remaining pain and to help me get back to sleep. I want either the urge to cough to go away, or the pain, or both...
