Weighing in on Religion

I like the title of this post.

So one of my New Years Resolutions this year was to revisit an old resolution and read my bible from beginning to end. Why? Just to say I've read it. It's an important book and I would like to have its knowledge to better understand other things. No, I'm not converting to a bible thumping Christian here. I still love my horror movies (on hold for a while of course), Marilyn Manson (especially when I'm working out at the gym), and irreverant religious humour (ask me sometime to send you my list of tasteless jokes).

Anyhoo... I stopped reading it in April 2006 when Ali and I moved to Calgary together and then forgot to take it up again. So I picked up where I left off and I am now on 2 Chronicles. I have had this discussion with my grandmother/Nanny and her and I agree that the Old Testement is, if you excuse the pun, a hell of a tough read. SOOOOO many names, lists, and don't get me started on the repetition of stories. Both Chronicles repeat the stories in both Samuels and both Kings. Oy Veh! And I almost fell asleep during the part where Moses got the 10 commandments from God as well as instructions on how to build the temples and altars, only to have the entire list in all its excrutiating lengthyness repeated AGAIN.

However, it was nice to read some of the familiar stories (David and Goliath, Solomon's wisdom about the women arguing over the child, etc), and it was interesting to get the real version of the stories, not the ones I read in my original children's bible. For instance, I didn't know the two women arguing over the child were prostitutes.

Anyways, I can't wait to get to the New Testament and all that excitement; especially with Revelations. But someone already ruined the bible for me: he dies in the end.
See, there's that humour I still like.

On another note, the offical weigh in for my challenge was today. I am officially 366lbs. I am going to weigh myself every Thursday around noonish and report later that day, if I can. So, All the best to everyone. Anisha says hello!
